Below is a simple text base guide on how to clean a inner barrel of an Airsoft gun.
The first stage is to get to the barrel, this will also depending on what airsoft gun you are taking apart such as an M4 and a L96 are completely different in design. In some cases you can clean the inner barrel with the hop still attatched but with the hop fully turned off. Personally, I find it best to clean the barrel alone with the hop removed.
Benefits of cleaning a barrel:
Having a clean barrel will result in more accurate shots. If the bb's are hitting dirt on their travel they will deflect and not fly perfectly straight when they are shot out of the gun. Range and power may also be effected if the barrel is extremely filthy.
How often should a barrel be cleaned?:
This depends on what tightness of a barrel you are using. Personally with a tightbore barrel of 6.01mm to 6.03mm and average costing bb's I would clean the barrel after every game, especially with sniper rifles.
What you will need:
First of all you need to disassemble the gun, as already stated it completely depends on the gun you own to how to disassemble it. There are plenty of guides and tutorials available on Youtube or searching with Google or any other search engine.
Once you have the inner barrel alone, squirt a couple of short blasts down one of the barrel. Then insert 1 or 2 cigarette filters into the end you sprayed and push through until they come out of the other end. Repeat this stage but leave the spray alone. Keep on repeating until the cigarette filters come out clean.
Alternatively you can wrap some tissue arround the cleaning rod and push through but replace the tissue with fresh tissue every time you insert the rod.
